Selection Criteria: Midshipmen in the classes of 2008, 2009, and 2010 may apply. Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:
- General eligibility requirements:
- Minimum QPR of 2.3 for 1/c applicants, or 2.5 for 2/c and 3/c applicants, as of the end of the fall semester of AY2008.
- Conduct grade of B or higher, and Aptitude grade of C or higher, for spring AY2007 and fall AY2008.
- PRT grade of A or B for fall semester of AY2008.
- Positive evaluations from Company Officer and from current and former language instructors at USNA.
- United States citizenship.
- Language-specific requirements. These requirements refer only to the applicant's record in the language of the program applied for:
- Complete or validate all courses through the 200 level (for Spanish programs: at least one course at the 300 or 400 level as well) by the end of fall semester of AY2008;
- Complete at least one classroom course in the language at USNA by the end of fall semester of AY2008;
- Minimum average of 3.0 in language courses taken at USNA as of the end of the fall semester of AY2008.
Financial Assistance: The Language Studies Department expects that program costs for Summer 2008 will be funded by Olmsted gift or government funds.
LSAP and Military Obligations: The following is the best information we have at this time and is subject to change.
- Class of 2008 may participate under TAD orders, depending on their first duty station report date or whether they will be TAD at USNA.
- Class of 2009 may be able to count LSAP participation as a summer training block. However, the number of 1/c summer training credit billets available for LSAP has not yet been determined.
- Class of 2010 may be able to participate.
Members of the classes of 2009 and 2010 who intend to participate in one of these programs must inform the Summer Training Office of their intent.
