Program Description

USNA SUMMER STUDY IN RUSSIA

The Russian LSAP program takes place in Vladimir, 115 miles northeast of Moscow. It is a 4-week program held at the accredited KORA Language Institute. The program is managed by ACTR, the foremost exchange program with Russia. Classes meet 6 hours a day and are held exclusively in Russian. In addition, there are weekly seminars on elective topics (such as news media, literature, folklore) that the students may pick from.

While in Russia midshipman live with host families and interact in Russian all the time they are there. The program includes a peer-tutoring program, whereby midshipmen are each assigned a college student who will help them improve their spoken Russian outside the classroom. Between these numerous Russian interactions (in class, at home, and in their free time), the mids rapidly improve their skills in speaking and listening.

All levels of culture are integrated into the program, from organized excursions to museums and historical sites, to theater, sports events, concerts and films during free time. The group usually makes a few trips to Moscow (which is an easy day excursion from Vladimir) and a weekend trip to Saint Petersburg.
